Chengdu Chengxiang Ancient Town Art Residency 2021
My residency record: In 2021, an invitation from Chengxiang Ancient Town in Qingbaijiang, Chengdu, pushed me into the vortex of an era undergoing tremendous change. At the time, this thousand-year-old town faced unprecedented demolition: several square kilometers of western Sichuan homes were about to disappear beneath the roar of bulldozers. My camera focused on the solemn restoration sites, where the Confucian Temple and Martial Temple were struggling to be reborn amid scaffolding. It also captured a scene of striking magical realism: a bronze statue of Guan Yu suspended in midair by a giant crane, as if a deity were descending, slowly returning to its place. In the low houses about to be razed, I climbed over the wall through the last opening before the bulldozers arrived. Facing the battered ruins, I left many “man-made immortals” on the mottled walls. As I left, severe toothache shot through half my face like an electric current, followed by a persistent high fever.

Xinhua News Agency AI Programme: Chinese Landform Imagery
In April 2023, ZOOJOO produced a group of generative images depicting different Chinese landforms for a Xinhua News Agency AI programme. The work explored how ink-wash textures, layers of terrain, and panoramic narrative space could be controlled in AI-generated imagery. This is retained as a concise project record.
